ERP Trends for 2020
With each passing year, we see new trends with ERP systems develop and evolve. 2019 was the year of the cloud. Cloud technologies greatly influenced ERP software in 2019, as we saw the influence AI and IoT had on ERP systems.
In 2020, cloud will continue to drive the modernization of ERP systems. Cloud computing has been the biggest driving force in ERP evolution in the last 20 years. The cloud is also the only place where enough power and memory can be aggregated for the number crunching and big data needed for AI.
SaaS is the cloud deployment option that is less expensive, user friendly and offers easy integrations with other applications. There are still organizations who are too afraid to their leave on-premise system, so 2020 should be the year they make the leap to cloud deployment. Most of the giant ERP players now offer cloud deployment options for ERP, instead of only on-premise.
We are going to see more improvements and features with AI, machine learning and natural language processing. Most the major ERP vendors have AI platforms that companies can use to develop their own intelligent applications, as well as have AI features programmed within their ERP software to handle narrow tasks in common workflows, such as invoice processing, where machine learning extracts data from an image and forwards the invoice to a manager.
ERP is the natural foundation for digital transformation and we will continue to see more this year. Simply put, we are going to see more ways to connect more programs, devices, and people to the ERP system to maximize business efficiencies. With this, we will also see more automation.
If your business has not made the move from your on-premise ERP system to the cloud, 2020 needs to be the year you do so. All of the above trends are only available with cloud ERP systems, so the longer you wait, the farther behind you are falling. 2W Tech is a full-service IT Consulting firm, specializing in manufacturing solutions.
