If you haven’t yet read the news today, Epicor Software Corporation, a global provider of industry specific enterprise software to promote business growth, announced today that it has entered into a definitive agreement to be acquired by the global investment firm KKR from funds advised by Apax Partners. Being a Certified Epicor Partner, we heard rumors that Epicor was looking to be acquired by an organization that could help them further expand their footprint and product offerings. Epicor made a strategic shift this year, emphasizing the goal of helping customers grow their business, not software. This change coming shortly after new leadership took over at the helm. So as an Epicor partner or client, should we be worried?
“Our top priority continues to be delivering cloud-ready, market-leading solutions paired with a world-class customer experience,” said Joe Cowan, president and CEO of Epicor. “KKR shares our vision of providing innovative technology with a clear focus on helping customers grow business, not software. This is an exciting time for Epicor, and I am extremely appreciative of Apax’s support during the last five years.” Cowan continued, “We are eager to work with KKR and believe their capabilities in the technology sector, both domestically and internationally, will enable us to find new ways to create value.”
All though actions speak louder than words, all the steps Epicor has taken in recent days, should ensure us that what Cowan speaks is truth. There have been a few other times in the last few years when there was talk about Epicor looking to get acquired, but none of those agreements were ever finalized, until now. This should give you some reassurance that Epicor took their time to find a marriage that would ultimately support and help further their mission. Although only time will tell, as an Epicor partner we are excited and encouraged by this aquisition and are looking forward to see what’s next for Epicor and their partners!
