Cloud Deployment Models
The cloud and all it entails is the topic of choice in plenty of conversations. The tech industry is experiencing a rapid explosion in popularity for cloud business solutions. Cloud solutions are designed to help organizations compete and stay relevant in a highly interconnected world that is evolving constantly. Now that organizations are no longer asking whether or not they should implement cloud, the question has now shifted to which of the cloud deployment models best suites their business?
By choosing a cloud deployment model, you can set the parameters of a cloud environment in terms of size, storage, accessibility, propriety, and more, to align with your business needs and cloud strategy. There are a few main cloud deployment models an organization can opt for;
- Public Cloud: A cloud-hosted environment available to the public that is hosted on a dedicated server and managed by an outside party. This 3rd party cloud provider is the complete owner of the creation and is responsible for maintenance of the public cloud, as well as any other resource it may involve. It is also currently the number one used deployment model.
- Private Cloud: This model of cloud computing is where IT services are provisioned over private IT infrastructure for the dedicated use of a single organization. This type of model does not share its computing infrastructure, which is client-hosted. It uses dedicated hardware and it provides physical control over its infrastructure to the owner.
- Community Cloud: This deployment model is very similar to a public cloud, but its fundamental difference lies in the fact that it only allows access to a specific community or group of users who share a purpose.
- Hybrid Cloud: This computing environment combines the public cloud and private cloud by allowing data and applications to be shared between them. This model can be challenging to manage as the use of private and public clouds is combined and the potential for cloud disparity increases. It does offer greater flexibility to organizations who seek to use resources both on-premise and in the public cloud, on a need-by-need basis.
