The National Institute of Standards and Technology plans to publish various volumes of Cybersecurity Practice Guides throughout 2022 and beyond. This move comes as NIST’s Cybersecurity Center of Excellence formed a Zero Trust Architecture Working Group comprised of 20 various companies. The Zero Trust Architecture working group will focus on sharing best practices on collapsing network security perimeters closer to applications and data.

The goal of the Cybersecurity Practice Guide is to encourage businesses to secure mobile endpoints, as well as to secure data and apps both on-premises and in the cloud. The guide will be a description of the practical steps needed to implement the cyber reference designs for zero trust security.

It hasn’t yet been determined if this Guide will be used for enforcement or simply to demonstrate best practices. Either way, the idea of publishing various volumes is encouraging as technology is constantly evolving, so best practices with cybersecurity will also evolve and change with time.
