Cybersecurity Awareness Month 2021 Encourages You to #BeCyberSmart

10/01/21

With ransomware attacks on the rise and countless threats to IT infrastructure for organizations of all sizes, Cybersecurity Awareness Month may be more important than ever this year. While cybersecurity awareness should be a year-round concern for you and your organization, take this month to provide detailed attention to your organization’s cybersecurity profile with help from the Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA) and National Cyber Security Alliance (NCSA).

Now in its 18th year, Cybersecurity Awareness Month – previously known as National Cybersecurity Awareness Month – continues to raise awareness about the importance of cybersecurity throughout the United States.

This year’s theme – Do Your Part. #BeCyberSmart – encourages individuals and organizations to own their role in protecting their part of cyberspace, stressing personal accountability and the importance of taking proactive steps to enhance cybersecurity.

Each week of October will focus on a specific area with promotions and outreach. This year, CISA and NCSA will focus on:

  • “Be Cyber Smart” the week of Oct. 4
  • “Fight the Phish!” the week of October 11
  • “Explore. Experience. Share.” the week of Oct. 18 (which also is Cybersecurity Career Awareness Week)
  • “Cybersecurity First” the week of October 25

The CISA website has many resources for individuals and organizations to learn more about how to protect themselves from cyberattacks, especially for small business leaders and local government agencies. The Cyber Essentials Toolkits is a set of modules that breaks down the CISA Cyber Essentials into bite-sized actions for IT and C-suite leaders to work toward full implementation of each Cyber Essential as listed by the CISA.
