G Suite vs Office 365
G Suite and Office 365 are a suite of business productively tools hosted in the cloud. Office 365 is a Microsoft product, whereas G Suite belongs to Google. Office 365 also provides a comprehensive range of desktop applications you install on your computer as opposed to using in a web browser. Office 365 and G Suite both allow you to create documents, spreadsheets and presentations, real-time collaboration with team members, video conferencing functionality and cloud storage.
With most of the Office 365 plans you get all the desktop versions of their products as well as the cloud-based ones. You can install the full versions of Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook etc. on your desktop PC or laptop, and work offline using these applications. Google apps are definitely more basic in terms of what they can do compared to what you can accomplish on Microsoft’s desktop app equivalents. If you’re looking to do some advanced number crunching, Excel will beat Google Sheets; if you want to add some ‘Smart Art’ in a document, you’ll need to be working in Microsoft Word rather than Google Docs; and if you need slick slide animations in a presentation, PowerPoint will do a better job than Google Slides.
Office 365 has a few apps that G Suite can’t offer direct competition for: Stream and Yammer. Stream is a video service which allows people in your organization can upload, view, and share videos securely. Yammer allows you to set up a sort of social network for your business, similar in some ways to an intranet, but with much more dynamic features. Both Office 365 and G Suite have great online collaboration tools. G Suites are easier to use because they have simpler features.
Microsoft and Google have other competition for business collaboration tools, but G Suite and Office 365 are by far the leaders. They are both great, feature rich products and either can offer your business the tools needed to be successful. 2W Tech is a Microsoft Gold Partner and stands behind the Office 365 suite as being the best option for your business.
