A Successful ERP Implementation Contingent on Training

11/16/22

Any type of ERP project is typically headache inducing, but an ERP implementation takes the stress level to another level. Most manufacturers find the implementation stage difficult. In the 2021 Epicor Industry Insights Report, Epicor surveyed organizations that had been through an ERP implementation and asked what support would be most useful during the implementation and onboarding phase. Thirty-two percent said training and run-throughs with super users, while 29% said staff training.

The reality is that if employees are well-trained, they can reduce future challenges and the need for greater support further down the line. Even after ERP go-live, manufacturers need ongoing help. Maybe even more-so then than during the implementation. There are many different training resources that could be made available. It could be technical documentation or a knowledge database. Many software providers have a library of resources they make available to their technology partners, as well as the end users. Most ERP providers also offer training videos and blogs, as well as help sections.

Sometimes the answer is seeking out peer knowledge from someone who has been through it. Asking for a reference could be a wonderful way to get an introduction. Every business that has been through an implementation could offer advice and tips on how to make the process run smoother.

But one of the most valuable training options is your ERP Consultant. In a proper implementation, your ERP partner knows the ins and outs of your business. Nothing comes second to hands-on support and on-site Consultants. They should make their time available to answer any questions you may face during the entire implementation process, including post-live. If Consultants are on-site and being hands on with your super users, your super users now become an extension of your ERP partner, essentially doubling the resources available to you.

The most important thing to remember is you must choose an ERP Partner that has experience with ERP implementations and can provide references to help give you assurance your needs will be supported every step of the way. The other thing you should consider is choosing an authorized partner. 2W Tech is an Epicor Platinum Partner with over 30 years’ experience working with Epicor solutions.
