Microsoft to Unveil ‘Next Phase of Copilot’ on September 16th

09/04/24

Microsoft is getting ready to host a special Copilot event later this month, highlighting “the next phase of Copilot innovation.” The “Wave 2” Copilot event, scheduled for September 16th, will be led by CEO Satya Nadella and Jared Spataro, the vice president of AI at work. Expect rebranding and exciting new features to be the focus point.

This event, which will be streamed on LinkedIn, will highlight the business aspects of Microsoft’s Copilot offerings. In my Notepad newsletter last month, I mentioned that Microsoft plans to rebrand Copilot in a characteristically Microsoft manner. This rebranding will change “Copilot in Word” to “Microsoft 365 Copilot in Word” and “Microsoft Copilot for Microsoft 365” to simply “Microsoft 365 Copilot.”

Microsoft’s event will not solely focus on rebranding. It is anticipated that a variety of new Copilot features for Microsoft 365 will be unveiled, aiming to attract more businesses to the $30 per user per month subscription. While Microsoft introduced its Copilot AI features in Office apps earlier this year, there’s ongoing debate among businesses about the value of the high monthly cost.

Additionally, we might see new features for Copilot Pro, Microsoft’s consumer subscription for artificial intelligence services. This $20 monthly plan offers Copilot features in Word, like the business subscription, but has not received many updates since its launch earlier this year. Notably, Microsoft removed the GPT Builder feature from Copilot Pro in June.

Microsoft’s Copilot event is scheduled for Monday, September 16th, starting at 8 AM PT / 11 AM ET.
