How is Your Overall Equipment Effectiveness?

11/04/20

Overall Equipment Effectiveness(OEE) is a measurement to show how productive your machines really are. OEE is the gold standard for measuring manufacturing productivity. Do you know how much of your planned production time is truly productive?

There are benchmarks for discrete manufacturing to help them understand their OEE:

  • 100% OEE: Perfect Production. You manufacture only good parts, as fast as possible, with no stop time.
  • 85% OEE: World Class Score. For most, this is the long-term target score.
  • 60% OEE: Most Typical Score.
  • 40% OEE: Pretty common for businesses when they first start to track and improve their manufacturing processes.

To determine your OEE Score: OEE= (Good Count(usable product. no defects) × Ideal Cycle Time) / Planned Production Time. Therefore, OEE takes into consideration any losses including stop time, speed loss, and quality loss. OEE is a great tool for decision makers, but for plant floor employees it can be a bit abstract and not straightforward.

Alora is a machine intelligence platform that can connect your data directly with real-time machine performance, creating visibility at an actionable level so that operators and managers can run business operations more effectively. It allows machine operators and managers to connect using simple, intuitive interfaces that help enable them to prevent errors from occurring and avert defects throughout the production process. Automated systems analyze data in real-time and trigger actions that help reduce downtime, prevent the chances of failure and improve output delivery. Through this integration, users will be better equipped to improve their Overall Equipment Effectiveness. Which in turn, will allow them to enhance their manufacturing productivity and quality by measuring, recognizing and improving how the shop functions.
