If so, it is time to stop considering there are often invaluable cybersecurity software patches and updates ready to protect your IT infrastructure waiting to be launched.

However, you are certain not alone if you put this process on the backburner. According to a study by NCA, a third of US/UK respondents say they either “sometimes,” “rarely” or “never” install software updates.

Updating your software is one of the easiest ways to keep information secure is to keep software and apps updated. Updates fix general software problems and provide new security patches where criminals might breach your systems. For Cybersecurity Awareness Month 2022, CISA wants to warn users to avoid clicking the “remind me later” button when updates are available for your software.

Here are some other figures to keep in mind when it comes to the importance of updating software for your cybersecurity posture:

  • Sixty-eight percent of participants in NCA’s study reported installing the latest updates and software as soon as they are available.
  • Of those who reported installing the latest updates to their devices in the NCA study, forty-five percent had turned on automatic updates. An additional twenty-one percent noted taking immediate action when they received a notification.
  • Also, just twenty percent of Android devices use the latest and safest OS version, according to Symantec.
