Introducing Microsoft 365 Copilot

03/20/23

Last week, Microsoft introduced Microsoft 365 Copilot, bringing the next generation of artificial intelligence to work. This application combines large language models with your data in Microsoft Graph and the Microsoft 365 apps. Microsoft said this application can turn your own words into the most powerful productivity tool on the planet.

The goal of Microsoft 365 Copilot is to help automate some tasks that are bogging down our workday and helping us become more efficient. You are always in control with Copilot. You get to decide what to keep, modify, or discard. It allows a user to be more creative in Word, analytical in Excel, expressive in PowerPoint, productive in Outlook, and experience more collaboration in Teams.

Microsoft also announced an entirely new experience with Business Chat. It works across the large language model, Microsoft 365 apps, and your data. You can give it natural language prompts and it can generate a status based on that.

“Today marks the next major step in the evolution of how we interact with computing, which will fundamentally change the way we work and unlock a new wave of productivity growth,” said Satya Nadella, Chairman and CEO, Microsoft. “With our new copilot for work, we’re giving people more agency and making technology more accessible through the most universal interface — natural language.”

Copilot is a great introduction to artificial intelligence for those who have yet not used it or used it in a work setting. Microsoft integrating Copilot into the work applications most people use every day is a great way to help us all experience the benefits of AI, without really overthinking it.
