The world awoke to a wave of IT outages across the globe this morning, paralyzing airports, airlines, banks, and other institutions as some Microsoft-based computers stopped working.

CrowdStrike is diligently addressing the issue with a specific content update that has affected Window users. The situation is contained to Windows hosts only, with no effect of Mac and Linux users. It is important to note that this situation is due to a defect, not a security breach or cyberattack.

The problem has been pinpointed and confined, and a resolution has been implemented according to CrowdStrike. “CrowdStrike is actively working with customers impacted by a defect found in a single content update for Windows hosts. Mac and Linux hosts are not impacted. This is not a security incident or cyberattack. The issue has been identified, isolated and a fix has been deployed,” said CrowdStrike CEO George Kurtz on social media this morning. “We refer customers to the support portal for the latest updates and will continue to provide complete and continuous updates on our website. We further recommend organizations ensure they are communication with CrowdStrike representatives through official channels. Our team is fully mobilized to ensure the security and stability of CrowdStrike customer.”

Microsoft was also quick to respond this morning on social media, “We are investigating an issue impacting users’ ability to access various Microsoft 365 apps and services,” Microsoft released in a statement.
